Trout Farm Fishing
We Just Wanted Dinner
We Were Hungry
Heather and I were getting hungry after the hike at Brasstown Bald. So I suggested we hit up a trout farm and catch some fresh dinner. Heather's never eaten fresh rainbow trout and I knew we could find a trout farm in the area. I really didn't care about doing "real" trout fishing, I was hungry.
Slinging A Line
We found a place called Goose Creek that had a little pond in front of the check-in lodge. I somewhat recognized the place from when I was a kid visitng Vogel State Park with my family. The place was empty which made for a good time. I went into the lodge and asked to do some fishin. The fella at the counter handed me and cup of corn kernels and pointed me in the direction of the pond.
We could see the fish swimming around doing their daily routine. They ranged from two pounds up to three and a half pounds, which is a good size fish. I loaded heathers cain poll up with corn and sent her to the other side of the pond.
Got One
Just as I was getting a little impatient I saw my bobber bobbin and set the hook. "Yee Haw... I got my dinner." As I look across the pond to see Heather smerking at me. Now we have to get another one for Heather.
Got Another... Let's Eat
About 20 long minutes went by and I could see Heather was getting a little bored. The fish were on to us and weren't bitting at all. On to plan B. The fish would swim right up to the wooden ledge and just chill there. So I figured I could grab the little fish net and scoop one up. I waited patiently then saw one stupid fatty trout swim right up to me. I gently placed the net behind him and cornered him. Voila! Scooped him right up. Heather looked in amazement and smiled. "Let's get outta here" I hollered.
The Weigh In
I took my two trout to the fella and he weighted them up. 5.3 pounds of fresh trout. Aw ya... now we're eating good tonight. It was an expensive dinner at $20 but well worth it.
We got back to camp and I fired the grill right up. I was excited and hungry. I could barely fit all the food on the grill or on my plate. Just the way I like it.
