Camping in Ocala National Forest
Juniper Springs
Here We Go Again
Heather and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Georgia and decided to venture out to the great outdoors for a second time. We had limited time so we both agreed to head down to the Ocala National Forest.. Juniper Springs to be exact. I heard many good things about the canoe run Juniper had to offer and Heather's never really been canoeing before. The down side to going camping at Juniper was we weren't able to bring Turkish. O Well.
Sweet!
As we pulled into the camp grounds we quickly noticed that camp grounds were empty and we were able to drive right up to our camp site. What a sweet relief! No hauling all our stuff several hundred yards uphill bitching and cussing the whole time. The down side was every family and their in-laws would soon be showing up due to how convenient the set up was. For this reason we went on a Thursday and left Saturday. Just in time.
Setting Up Camp
Pitching the tent was a breeze and since we were able to drive up we just left all our stuff in the truck. I'm beginning to like this. We didn't have the tent pitched for more than five minutes when out first guest arrived. Bandit is the coon we named that stalked our every move waiting to take over our site. He wasn't the only vermin stalking us... he had a posse with each vermin grunt strategically placed for maximum take over. They sure were fun to tease.
The First Night
We came prepared for a long, hot night by bringing plenty of spirits and bug spray. That first night Heather and I polished off a twelve pack of beer then moved on to finish the big bottle of red wine. Needless to say we were pretty lifted (in a good way). I sure had fun hassling the coons. It was so damn hot and it also started to rain a bit. Can you say mosquito? I showered myself with straight up deet and those little bastards still managed to penetrate my skin. I was more than numb from the drinking and all but the next morning I sure felt the pain.
